AT&T can kiss my A$&$!

If you saw the new iPhone announcement today during WWDC you probably thought “Gee, I can’t wait to get one”. Well, don’t get to excited just yet. I used the pre-order tool from Apple to determine how it would cost me to upgrade. Here is how much a new iPhone 3G$ will cost me…
- $499.00* — 8GB iPhone 3G (black)
- $599.00* — 16GB iPhone 3G S (black or white)
- $699.00* — 32GB iPhone 3G S (black or white)
This phone is going to have the slowest conversion rate ever! I don’t care how great they are I am not paying $599 for one.
I am sure people signing up for a new AT&T plan will be able to get these at the price point mentioned during WWDC; $199 for 16GB. Even if I pay full price I am not going to get MMS Messaging or tethering. We still have to wait for those and when AT&T is ready to allow tethering I am sure we will all have to pay more money for that functionality.
Last year was a better deal. If you had the original iPhone you could upgrade. Apple and AT&T would sell more iPhone 3G$ with the same deal. I would be fine extending my AT&T contract for another two years this way. I understand that people who purchased the original iPhone paid a premium to get their hands on new technology, I was one of them. Then a year later I upgraded. The new iPhone is nice and does have some updated features but I no longer feel that this is new tech that should have a new tech premium attached to it. Early adopters always pay a premium…
My 2 cents…
