Zombie Map “Five” Review

by on Aug.17, 2011, under Call of Duty, Consoles, Zombies

The Pentagon is under attack by hordes of flesh eating zombies. You better be good or else you won’t last long on this map…

Five is the first zombie map to change it up a bit. The characters in this map aren’t the usual marine-type we’ve been getting used to. Instead we get to play as President Kennedy, Robert McNamara, Richard Nixon, and Fidel Castro…interesting group of guys I suppose. Anyway, this map is in the top 3 hardest maps available next to Verruckt, and Shangri-La. It has tight quarters making it tough to maneuver through and around the zombies. The good thing is that there are lots of ways to power up and upgrade your guns.

There’s 3 floors in this map. The first floor that you spawn in, downstairs (the computer room,) and the basement filled with labs and all kinds of nasty things. This map doesn’t have much when it comes to Easter Eggs, but it’s quite a thrill ride.

Monkey Bombs return along with a new gun called the Winters Howl. Upgraded it’s called the Winters Fury. This gun freezes the zombies upon shooting, slowing them down or completely stopping them. Whatever it does, it definitely weakens them making them much easier to kill. Traps are also found on this map in the spawn area. You have to find 2 pieces of the traps on the map then return them to the metal detector devices in the spawn room. I’ve never really used the traps on Five but I’ve returned the pieces several times.

The four main perk machines return also and are VERY worth buying. Especially Juggernog.

This is the first and only map to have an elevator. It’s also the first and only map to have the scientist. This guy replaces the dogs as a mid-round boss and can sometimes ruin a game for you if your not careful. He steals your load out so whatever gun your currently holding will be his if you don’t kill him first. After he takes your gun, you have to hunt him down for the remaining time of the round and if you don’t find him and kill him, your gun is his. If you get lucky, you can get an insta-kill or a Death Machine from a zombie in the previous round that will last until the scientist shows up. Then he only takes one shot. If you kill him before he takes your gun you get a “Bon-fire sale.” This allows you to upgrade your guns for only 1000 points. I once had two pack a punched guns by round 6 and I can easily say that Five is the ONLY map that this is possible on.

The Pack a Punch machine is activated by pressing the four defcon switches in the computer room. The main teleporter takes you there when all four switches are activated, taking you to a safe room where the PaP machine lies. Of course, in order to do all this you must turn on the power in the basement first. The scientist doesn’t show up until you turn on the power also.

Joey (co-founder of this site) played Five with me for the first time and we made it to round 22 which is basically unheard of for a first timer on this map. Props to Joey in his skill. The best way to survive this map is to run a circle in the computer room and allow the zombies to horde themselves up, turning around and shooting when you can.

Easter Eggs:

There are 3 red telephones scattered around the map which activate the song “Won’t Back Down” by Eminem and Pink. A switch from the heavy metal songs that are usually in zombie maps.

There’s a pig in one of the rooms in the basement. There really isn’t much significance to it but you can put it out of its misery if you feel the need.
