Playstation Comic Store Live

by Snake Pliskin on Dec.17, 2009, under PSN, PSP

PSN Comic Store Open For Business

Sony has turned up the Comic section of the Playstation store.  You can now purchase comics for your reading pleasure right on your PSP.  The use of the comic store and the comic reader application require PSP firmware 6.20.

Sony also provided a decent list of free comics that you can go ahead and try out.  They are under the free comics section.

When the comic reader was first announced Sony also provided two free comics.  I read through Transformers: All Hail Megatron and I must say that reading the comic book on the PSP was an absolute pleasure.  I found autoflow provided a smooth way of reading by panning the next storyboard then focusing on the text.  As an added bonus, you can even listen to your mp3′s while reading.

I look forward to picking up some Captain America, Classic Transformers, and X-Men comics to add to my holiday reading list.

Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen Review

by bones22j on Jul.28, 2009, under Game Review, PSP

The battle between good and evil continues in this less than crappy adaption to the smash hit movie Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. Autobots wage their battle to destroy the evil forces of the Decepticons. He he. Of course there can’t be a sequel without some twists and turns. Decepticons aren’t the only antagonizer this time as The Fallen return (from God knows where) to claim their universe…or wait…our universe.

Roll Out…

The only rolling I wanted to do the whole time was to take this UMD disc and drive a STEAM ROLLER over it. This games sucks. Let me say that again. This game SUCKS!!! It’s called Transformers BUT YOU CAN’T TRANSFORM!!!

You can pick Autobot missions or Decepticon missions. Each mission is THE EXACT SAME THING! YOU running around with a big gun and shooting hordes of robots until you excel to the end of the mission. Watch the crappy cut scenes and do it all over again until finally, you reach the end of the game where you get to kick the crap out of The Fallen (which is only one guy by the way.)

Each time you select a mission (whether it be Autobot or Decepticon) you are given a choice as to who your character will be. There are some familiars such as Bumble Bee, Optimus, Starscream, and Megatron; and there are some new characters who aren’t worth mentioning. Your main weapon is a gun which you can upgrade throughout the level until it’s just a clutter of lazer beams damaging everything in it’s path, and some bombs. Did I mention that you can’t transform? Yea, I did. There is one level that you get to drive as a transformed vehicle which I believe is Bumble Bee, but that level sucks. Oh yea this whole game sucks.

Movie Adaption Games Must Be Stopped…No Matter the Cost…

Seriously, I give up on buying movie adaption games for PSP. It’s like they don’t even try. EVERY SINGLE MOVIE ADAPTION GAME FOR THE PSP SUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCKKKKKKSSSSS!!! Harry Potter, Wolverine, Transformers etc. I happen to know for a fact that the PS3 has great movie adaption games. Why can’t the PSP? Why?

Ok let me get to the graphics and sound….Graphics=suck. Sound=sucks. Fun=sucks. I’m sorry to be so drab but this was too much for me. It’s like asking for a motorcycle for Christmas and getting a BMX bike instead. I’m sick of this crap. This game gets a third of a quarter of a third of a star out of five for me. DON’T BOTHER!!! The only good thing about this game is when you beat it you get some old Transformers episodes to watch from the G1 era. That’s all folks.

I can’t even find any cheats or codes for this piece of crap.

Oh Yeah! Assassins Creed coming to PSP with limited edition bundle!

by Snake Pliskin on Jul.16, 2009, under PSP

The Bundle

The Playstation Blog has the scoop on this one. A nice shiny white PSP 3000 bundled with 2GB Memory stick, an undisclosed UMD movie, and Assassins Creed Bloodline for the PSP. It looks like the developers have even added some integration with the PS3 version!

The Interview with Frederic Lefrancois

Could you introduce yourself and explain your role in the project?

My name is Frederic Lefrancois and I’m 3rd Party Producer on Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines. My role on this project is to ensure that this game releases on time for the Holiday at the highest level of quality.

I’m working hand in hand with the “Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines” developer and Assassin’s Creed Core Team at Ubisoft Montreal to develop a great game that will respect all of AC brand pillars.

Who is in charge of the development?

The game is developed by the Griptonite Studio under the supervision of Ubisoft Montreal’s Assassin’s Creed Core Team.

How is Assassin’s Creed PSP linked to the Assassin’s Creed universe?

“Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines” follows Altair’s story right after the events of Assassin’s Creed as he hunts down the ascending Templars in Cyprus. It’s the only game that explains the link between Assassin’s Creed and Assassin’s Creed 2. If you want to understand how Ezio is born and where the Codex comes from, you need this game.

What is the storyline of the game? Can you give us a quick synopsis?

Assassin’s Creed PSP picks up right where Assassin’s Creed ended. After the death of Robert De Sable by Altair’s blade, the Templars, led by Armand Bouchart, fled the Holy Land to settle on the island of Cyprus. Following their tracks, Altair has the firm intention to put an end to their quest for power. Altair will help the local resistance fight the Templar’s’ occupation and get rid of the Templar commanders.

How did Altair evolve as a character from the first Assassin’s Creed to the PSP game?

With most of his preconceptions shattered and cast among the blood of slain Templars, Altair enters the events of “Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines” with an open mind. No longer bound by Al Mualim’s leadership, he forges his own path and destiny. He has become more curious, more inquisitive and far less trusting.

What main gameplay feature can we expect in “Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines”? Will the player get to investigate before every assassination mission?

You can expect to enjoy the core gameplay of the original Assassin’s Creed including the signature free-running and the intuitive combat system. Before killing his targets, Altair will get to complete a variety of missions, not always investigations. There are 8 new mission types and we wanted each mission to feel as fresh and exciting as the final Assassination moment.

How is the open-world and free running that are key elements of the Assassins Creed brand presented in the PSP game?

As it was the case in Assassin’s Creed, Altair will get to explore various large cities. This time around Altair will discover the cities of Limasol and Kyrenia in Cyprus, a beautiful and historically very interesting island in the Mediterranean Sea.

Once again, you can expect Altair to master his environment while performing all of his signature moves. In fact, Altair will free-run, sprint, fly between beams and climb everywhere to take advantage of its surroundings. This is a huge benchmark technology wise as this kind of freedom of movement has never been seen before on the PSP.

Why did you choose Cyprus as the setting for the PSP game?

In the summer of AD 1191, the Templar order withdrew from the Holy Land to the island of Cyprus which they had previously bought from Richard the Lionheart. They occupied the island and oppressed the locals who rose up in rebellion only to end up being crushed by the Templars. We chose this setting because it’s an intriguing historical period surrounded by conspiracy of the Templar Treasures left on the Island. The oppression of the people of Cyprus is the perfect backdrop to continue Altair’s story and explain some of the key elements of Assassin’s Creed 2.

Will you use the PS3/PSP connectivity function?

As players unlock health and Hidden blade upgrades in Assassin’s Creed 2 PS3, the same upgrades will be unlocked in Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines (PSP). It also works the other way round: on the PS3 you will be able to access any Templar Coins and special weapons you’ve collected on the PSP.

Holy Invasion of Privacy Coming to PSN today!

by Snake Pliskin on Jul.16, 2009, under PSN, PSP

Some time today, Sony will be updating the US Playstation Store with new goodies for us to download.  One of the titles coming today is Holy Invasion of Privacy Badman!  If you haven’t had the chance to, visit the Playstation Store and check out the demo released a few weeks ago.  I personally found it very fun and strategizing how the eco system of my dungeon was going to operate and fend off heroes was quite addicting.

You can also read the iGamerz preview for this release Here

Gran Tourismo PSP – Q and A

by Snake Pliskin on Jul.16, 2009, under PSN, PSP

Some questions posted on the PSN Blog were answered by the producers of GT PSP. Dialogue below…

Could we expect any compatibility of Gran Turismo PSP with Gran Turismo 5 (like Resistance: Retribution with Resistance 2)? – TRIX_BOL

Polyphony has always pushed the hardware boundaries of every console it’s been released on…and while this isn’t really answering your question, it does leave it open for you to imagine the possibilities.

Is GT PSP going to have DLCs (such as new cars, tracks, etc..)? – TRIX_BOL

We’re planning on having 800+ cars right out of the box, which is pretty much a lifetime’s worth of racing (I’m still unlocking cars from GT4). With that sort of breadth and reach of options, having DLC would be like tossing water into the ocean.

Will cars get damaged on GT PSP? – TRIX_BOL

Damage? No. 800+ cars, 35 tracks, on-the-go awesomeness, and a lifetime’s worth of racing, yes.

Will we see Porche, Lamborghini in the PSP version? – wbrinkman

Our car selection is pretty broad — there is a lot of candy, that’s for sure — but as far as flavors, you’ll just have to wait a bit more.

Will there be a downloadable demo of Gran Turismo for the PSP? – grashopper

We wish we can provide one, but at this time, there are no plans. We are focusing our efforts on Gran Turismo and GT5.

It appears that the AI car count is 3 cars on track. Counting you, there would be 4 cars in the race. Wouldn’t it have been better to drop the framerate of the game from 60 to 30 and increased the car count? – grashopper

We went through many experiments but came to the conclusion that having three opponents gives you the best portable racing experience while maintaining the Gran Turismo level of quality.

Cmon fellas…GT5 Prologue update? Eh, eh? Custom soundtracks? Maybe trophies, a lobby system? Screenshot function? – FoomMan

Sorry FoomMan, we’re around the bend and down the straight: the team’s main focus at this point is making sure GT PSP (and GT5) are in your hands.
