Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

by on Jun.10, 2009, under Game Review, PSP

Luke, I am your father…

So, your Darth Vaders personal apprentice and you got all these powers but your boss is a d!(k, and tries to kill you. What do you do? You go on a kickass adventure and kill as many robots and aliens as possible, then you tell your boss to shove it while kicking his evil butt all across the galaxy.  And hopefully collect unemployment, if you’ve got a good excuse for killing your boss.

The Force Unleashed:

Choose from 3 different scenarios and complete the goals to unlock secrets in the unlockables option. Theirs Force Duel which is a fighting style game, theres Order 66 where you have to defeat a certain amount of enemies to get to the boss, and there is the Historic Missions (which is my personal fave.) In The Historic Mission scenario you must complete missions that come right out of the movies. For instance in one of the missions you play as Luke Skywalker at The Dune Sea, where you fight Bubba Fett and try not to fall into the giant sand mouth with spiked teeth on the desert floor.

The scenario missions are only half of what this game really is, but they are indeed a great part of it. I have to give some props to the guys at Lucas Arts. If they wanted to, they could have just made this a story based game (which still would have been awesome) but they decided to add this. This part of the game will probably be the best part for the Star Wars fan because they can fight any Star Wars character as any Star Wars character, and the Historic Missions almost make you feel like your a part of those old legendary battles. The unlockables make this part extra fun because you can earn all the characters from the movie to play with.

Story Mode:

This is where you play as the apprentice to Darth Vader and go thr0ugh all the drama. It has its twist and turns as you fight to decide if your a jedi or a sith. This game appeals even to the non Star Wars fan. I myself was never into the whole Star Wars thing that much, but I couldnt put this game down.

The graphics are good as always, but it’s the music that really impressed me with this one. Put on a pair of headphones and listen. It’s like they pulled the music right out of the movie and put it in the game…wait a minute, I think they did…BUT is it Fun? The answer to that question is YES! I was pleasantly surprised to find myself caring about Star Wars so much.

Lego Batman

by on Jun.03, 2009, under Game Review, PSP

Batman and Robin return in a Lego style game thats sure to make you wonder…is there anything they can’t do with this franchise? The answer to that question is no, they can pretty much do anything with it. Play as Batman, Robin, The Penguin, Catwoman, Croc, Two Face, and just about every Batman character you can imagine in a 3D Lego world inspired by just about every comic and movie ever made. Just about every character has their own stage to be played and defeated so buckle up and….TO THE BATMOBILE!!!

WHY SO SERIOUS?

The game starts with Batman and Robin but after a little progression you get to expand your horizons with new characters. You can even choose to be evil and pick the bad guys to play with. Every character has his or her own trademark ability. For instance, as Catwoman you can double jump to hard to get to places and Penguin has bombs to blow up certain entrances. Each level has these puzzles that need the characters ability to accel. After you beat a level you earn free play which allows you to select any character to play with no objectives except to find secrets.

Some levels are on foot, some levels are in the air (the Bat uh plane) and some levels are on a boat (the Bat Boat…who comes up with this stuff?) Anyway, even the bad guys have their own transportation to cause mischief with. You can choose what kind of level you want to play. There are some extras in the game also which adds to the new things you can do and accomplish.

Dunna Dunna Dunna Dunna BATMAN!!

The graphics are pretty good and the levels are free roaming. The music is just what you would expect from a Batman game which is kind of ironic considering that it’s dark and the characters are nothing short of cute. It’s actually pretty funny to watch the lego rendition of the characters (that have no dialog) in the cutscenes. The game is full of sarcasm for those who have common sense and understand it. The moves are easy to execute making for great gameplay.

Batman fans will be pleased with this game and non Batman fans will too. It’s fun to play and it’s funny to watch. It all makes for a great game that can sometimes be hard to put down. If you don’t own it go out and get it.

Castlevania The Dracula X Chronicles

by on Apr.16, 2009, under Game Review, PSP

Summary

Together at last. Castlevania Rondo of Blood, and Castlevania Symphony of the Night (plus a remastered version of Rondo of Blood) on one disc. You have to find Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night in the remastered version of Rondo, but that just makes it more fun. There is also a boss rush mode where you have to fight and kill each boss from the game (these also have to be earned throughout the games.) This game has it all and it contains one of my favorite games of all time which is Symphony of the Night.

Remastered Rondo of Blood

Play as Richter Belmont as you fight your way through hordes of ghost, bats, and zombies to get to the infamous Count Dracula using the famous Belmont whip/morning star. This of course is the remake of Rondo which carries the same story and gameplay, but with better graphics and a few surprises that weren’t in the original.
Your journey begins with a duel with Death himself as an appetizer, and thats before you even get inside the castle. The main course is an eight stage brawl with four alternative stages for extra blood and guts. And finally the brawl with the man himself as you slash your way to a just desert. Play through the quick way for average delite, or play through all the alternate stages and rescue the maidens for pure gaming ecstacy.
Fullfill a few requirements in game and boss rush mode gets unlocked. Play via ad-hoc wireless with a friend or just by yourself and see how many bosses you can beat in a row without getting yourself killed. You can also unlock another game that is mostly just a joke called Akumajyo Dracula Peke. I think this adds to the games overall epicness, even though Akumajyo Dracula Peke isn’t a fun game because it wasn’t meant to be. I hope.
With a killer soundtrack, great gameplay, good graphics, and overall fun, this game measures up. We’ve all learned to expect a lot from this franchise, and this game meets all my expectations. Also, this game is the link between the SNES and the Playstation versions so if your into the story this one fills in the blanks.

Symphony of the Night

Where do I begin? This is the greatest Castlevania game EVER in my humble opinion, not to mention the greatest side scroller available (again in my opinion.) Play as Alucard (Dracs lil’ boy) a rebelious vampire as he misbehaves and doesn’t listen to his dad, not to mention kills him if YOUR good enough. Sounds fun huh? Well that would be enough for most, but this game goes above and beyond that and then…… it goes even further. This game was made in 1997 and even now people are finding new glitches to make the game percentage skyrocket.
The game may take the shape of a side-scroller but it has the heart of an r.p.g. Earn new weapons by exploring the castle and finding them, learn new magic and gain experience points as you fight all the classic monsters from the original NES Castlevania… but not until you flip the castle upside down…we’ll get into that later. You even have the abilty (as a vampire) to transform into a bat, a wolf, and a cloud of mist that can kill things. It’s almost too good.
After you think you’ve beaten the game, it turns out that your only half way there. Although there is something special you have to do to play the other half of the game. I remember being sad when I thought the game was over, then how happy I became after I learned this. Yes that’s right. The castle flips upside down and leaves you with another half of greatness to be explored. This is where the story gets pretty deep for all the story lovers.
This is by far one of the best Castlevania games ever. If you don’t have it then I suggest you get it. Hopefully Konami makes some games that resemble the greatness of the 80′s and 90′s Castlevania games some time in the future.

Original Rondo of Blood

This is the original Rondo of Blood that never came out in the U.S. If your a true fan of the series I suggest you give this a try. It’s the same game as the remastered version without the graphics and music upgrade. It’s fun to see Richter in this older version because he looks like Ryu from Street Fighter. HADOKEN!!!!!!!!!!

iMob Review

Summary

Become the ultimate mobster. Grow your mob by adding members and increase your power and income by purchasing properties and taking out your rivals.

iMob

Graphics

The game is mostly presented using text and background images. The text is presented in an easy to read format and color scheme that looks attractive and is easy on the eyes.

Game Play

This is where iMob shines. Its is loads of fun and quite addicting. Complete as many missions as possible to try and raise your level and player stats. Each time you gain enough experience to level up, you can apply 3 skill points to increase your players abilities. Increasing Attack and Defense points will make you a stronger fighter. Increasing your stamina allows you to increase your attack frequency. Increasing your health with give you more hit points so that you can withstand more damage when other players attack you. Increasing your energy, you can complete more missions to earn experience points faster.

You can also equip your mob with various weapons, armor, and vehicles to increase your attack strength. Make sure you have enough equipment to cover the amount of members in your mob. All of your stats including health, stamina, and energy recharge at certain time intervals. The recharge times are set just right to permit pick up and play during short burst of free time.

Each time a player successfully attacks your mobster you will lose money that you have not deposited into your bank account. Each time your mobster is killed you will lose some experience points.

InviteThe other objective is to grow your mob by adding members. The more members you add the more powerful your mob becomes and a percentage of your mob will assist you when battling other players. You can add mob members by inviting other players that are near your current location via GPS tracking or adding Friend Codes from other web sites or Friend Codes that players post to you via the built-in messaging system.

Respect

You can purchase respect points via the App store to give you some game play advantages. Currently, you can use respect points to instantly refill your energy, add a henchman to increase your mob member count, or trade in some respect points for cash.

Properties

You can increase your hourly income by purchasing different types of Land and then building stores, clubs, restaurants, or casinos. Each property you have will increase your hourly income. Keep in mind that property costs will increase as you increase your player level.

Hits

Someone getting on your nerves and kicking your ass? You can mark them for death! When a img_0013player is marked for death it will get posted to the “Marked” section of the game. You will have to pay a hefty sum as a bounty to the person who takes out the mobster you marked.

Closing

iMob is an enjoyable game and once iPhone 3.0 software gets released, I hope the developers will add support for copy and paste to it. It will be much easier when we can copy codes posted via the messaging system and paste them into the invite via Friend Code box. See you in the game!
